Educational experiences and Social interaction for seniors in the Perth and Mandurah areas
MALA is a non-profit, voluntary and independent organisation providing educational and social opportunities for the over fifties in the Perth and Mandurah areas of Western Australia.
The PERTH PROGRAM consists of a Friday lecture series of two semesters of ten weeks each starting on the third Friday in March and August. There are three sessions per day with up to five courses per session. (Lecture sessions are from 10.00 a,m. to 11.15 a.m., 11.45 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and 1.45 p.m. to 3.00 p.m.) Lectures are held at the Constitutional Centre, Parliament Place West Perth (Please do not ask them for information - we hire their rooms - they are not directly associated.) On-site parking is not generally available - except for those with ACROD permits- but the Centre is close to free public transport and there are nearby car parks. Details of Perth Courses may be found on the Current Perth Courses page of this website.
The MANDURAH PROGRAM consists of a Monday lecture series of two semesters of ten weeks starting on the third Monday in March and August. Lectures are held at Ac-Cent Mandurah, (formerly known as the Senior Citizens Centre). Parking is available and the Centre is well served by public transport. Details of Mandurah Courses may be found on the Current Peel Courses page of this website.
All lecturers are experts in their fields and chosen on the basis of their understanding of our learning requirements. Topics include aspects of history, literature, science, environmental issues, politics, cultures, philosophy, languages, nature studies, religions, music, contemporary issues and so on. There are no examinations, no required educational prerequisites, no set homework and no embarrassing questions! There are interesting and stimulating lectures on a wide variety of topics. Occasionally dinners, tours and interesting outings are organised. The many members represent a diverse spectrum of the community. New participants are always welcome.
Because MALA is a non-profit organisation course fees are kept as low as possible. Currently membership is $5 per semester and courses of 10 weeks are at a rate of $60 for one, $110 for two and $150 for three.
